After the first race was sailed in light winds, the breeze gradually increased during the day. This allowed two further races to be completed, bringing the total number of races sailed to six.

The Tornado European Championship on Lake Garda has entered its decisive phase. The second day of racing confirmed the high standard of the international fleet competing at Univela Campione del Garda. Conditions were initially light, before the breeze steadily increased throughout the day.

Following the three races held on the opening day, three further technically demanding and closely contested races were on the programme. The results reshuffled the overall standings and rewarded, above all, the crews able to combine speed and consistency in the changing conditions on Lake Garda.

Trigonis-Kazantzis remain in the lead

Greek sailors Konstantinos Trigonis and Konstantinos Kazantzis (GRE 11), representing the Nautical Club of Thessaloniki, remain at the top of the provisional overall standings. The leaders after Day 1 added a first place, an eighth their discarded result and a second place to their earlier scores. They therefore end the day on 12 net points.

Fellow Greeks Nikolaos Mavros and Polydoros Parianos (GRE 86) have moved decisively into second place. After finishing the opening day in fifth position, Mavros-Parianos produced a very consistent series today, scoring a second, a first and a third place. With 16 net points, they are now just four points behind the leaders.

Swiss crew Jean-Marc Cuanillon and Michael Gloor (SUI 232) remain third overall on 19 net points. After a more difficult day, marked by an early start in Race 4 and a high score in Race 5, the Swiss crew responded with a fourth place in the final race of the day, retaining contact with the two leading teams.

Steiner moves up, Betz drops back

The biggest move of the day came from Marcel Steiner and Jörg Steiner (GRE 110), who climbed from tenth to fourth overall. With a third place, a fifth place and a win in Race 6, the crew reduced the gap to the provisional podium and now stands on 21 net points.

Czech sailors Michaela Pavlisova and Marek Pavlis (CZE 72) are fifth on 27 net points. The 2021 Tornado European Champions remain in a strong position thanks to a consistent series, including a fourth and a seventh place in the first two races of the day.

It was a more difficult day for Germany’s Markus and Nikolas Betz (GER 2), who had been third after Day 1 and have now slipped to ninth overall. After a twelfth place in Race 4, they posted a sixteenth-place finish, discarded as their worst score, and another sixteenth in the final race. The reigning World Champions nevertheless retain the potential to return to the battle for the leading positions in the races ahead.

The Italian teams

The leading Italian crew remains Mirco Mazzini and Andrea Ciavatta (ITA 46, Punto Vela Bellariva Rimini), in seventh place overall on 32 net points. Their day included a sixth place, an excellent third in Race 5 and a twelfth place, which was discarded.

Edoardo Trerè and Daniele Stargiotti (ITA 31) are in 14th place, while Andrea Trerè and Lukas Kraus (ITA 3) are 17th. The San Marino team of Samuele Selva and Matteo Paci (SMR 1) is currently in 22nd place.

With six races already completed, the European Championship has entered its central stage. Trigonis-Kazantzis hold a narrow advantage, while Mavros-Parianos have shown they have the speed and consistency needed to put the leaders under pressure. The battle for the podium also remains open, with Cuanillon-Gloor and Steiner-Steiner still fully in contention.

The event, now in its 51st edition, will continue at Univela Campione del Garda until 5 September. A total of twelve races are scheduled.

Results after Day 2:

PosCrewNatPtsRace scores
1Konstantinos Trigonis / Konstantinos KazantzisGRE121-4-4-1-(8)-2
2Nikolaos Mavros / Polydoros ParianosGRE16(11)-9-1-2-1-3
3Jean-Marc Cuanillon / Michael GloorSUI192-1-7-UFD-(23)-4
4Marcel Steiner / Jörg SteinerGRE2110-2-(15)-3-5-1
5Michaela Pavlisova / Marek PavlisCZE277-6-3-4-7-(9)
6Allan Gamble / Rupert Gerard FritzAUS318-(11)-5-5-9-4
7Mirco Mazzini / Andrea CiavattaITA325-10-8-6-3-(12)
8Zdenek Pavlis / Klara PavlisovaCZE3714-7-(16)-7-2-7
9Markus Betz / Nikolas BetzGER429-3-2-12-(16)-16
10Michael Papadopoulos / Danis PascalidisGRE433-8-12-9-(19)-11

2026 Tornado European Championship at Campione del Garda, Italy – Day 2 by International Tornado Class Association 3…

[2
7632,7628,5,4421,36,7629,4280,6172,1135,35,7630,7626,7633,7631,7627
post-44842","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-italy","tag-boat","tag-boating","tag-italy","tag-lake","tag-news","tag-photographs","tag-photos","tag-racing","tag-reports","tag-results","tag-sail","tag-sailing","tag-sea","tag-yacht","tag-yachting
["GET
