{"id":46262,"date":"2026-09-08T06:27:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T06:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/46262\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T06:27:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T06:27:20","slug":"venice-premiere-for-italian-horror-the-spiral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/46262\/","title":{"rendered":"Venice Premiere for Italian Horror &#8216;The Spiral&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/venice-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_venice-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"venice-film-festival\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Venice Film Festival<\/a> has a new guilty pleasure. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe hometown crowd went wild Monday night for the world premiere of The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/spiral\/\" id=\"auto-tag_spiral_1\" data-tag=\"spiral\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spiral<\/a>, a campy, fun Italian horror thriller from director Paolo Strippoli (The Holy Boy, A Classic Horror Story).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJasmine Trinca (Saint Laurent, The Caiman) stars as Anna, a controlling mother who makes a deal with the devil, in the form of a trench coat-wearing, chain-smoking Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, to save her daughter Alice (Romana Maggiora Vergano) after a gruesome accident. But the agreement sets off a, you guessed it, spiral of macabre events that will end up tearing the family apart. Adriano Giannini plays Anna\u2019s wealthy alpha-male businessman husband, Walter. Andrea Genovese plays their son Tobia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe twisty genre film, which dips into Grand Guignol territory, with plenty of OTT performances \u2014 led by Tedeschi\u2019s glorious turn \u2014 may be an outsider for the Golden Lion, but it definitely played for the Venice audience, which gave it a warm and enthusiastic standing ovation, with the director and cast coaxing the crowd to keep clapping past the 9-minute mark.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWhether that will be enough to convince the Venice jury, headed by The Bride! director Maggie Gyllenhaal, remains to be seen. But at a Venice where fun has been in short supply, The Sprial, came as a welcome palate cleanser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Spiral next heads to Toronto, where it\u2019s screening in the popular Midnight Madness section. Le Pacte, which is handling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/international\/\" id=\"auto-tag_international_1\" data-tag=\"international\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">international<\/a> sales for the film, will be hopeful for its prospects. Given the film\u2019s high-concept premise, remake rights could also be in play.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe film hits Italian theaters Oct. 8, released by 01 Distribution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Venice Film Festival has a new guilty pleasure.
