Rome Film Fest has unveiled its\u00a0full 2026 lineup, which includes the world premiere of Oscar and Palme d\u2019Or winner Bille August\u2019s Me, You and Alexandre Castagnetti\u2019s contemporary take on 19th-century classic The Phantom Of The Opera.<\/p>\n
Me, You and The Phantom Of The Opera both play in Rome\u2019s non-competitive Grand Public section. Rome Film Fest runs from\u00a0October 13-25.<\/p>\n
Set in post-Second World War Italy,\u00a0Me, You is the story of shy 16-year-old Marco who falls in love with 20-year-old Caia while on holiday with his father. When she reveals her painful childhood caused by the SS during the war, Marco decides to avenge her pain on a group of rude German tourists. Among the cast of the Italian-French co-production are Brian Cox and Tim Roth.<\/p>\n
Danish filmmaker August won the Palme d\u2019Or twice for 1989\u2019s\u00a0Pelle The Conqueror \u2013\u00a0which also won an Oscar \u2013 and for 1992\u2019s\u00a0The Best Intentions.<\/p>\n
Castagnetti\u2019s The Phantom Of The Opera is a French-language reimagining of Gaston Leroux\u2019s novel and stars Deva Cassel, Julien De Saint-Jean and Romain Duris alongside acclaimed ballet stars Guillaume Diop and Doroth\u00e9e Gilbert.<\/p>\n
Rome\u2019s Progressive Cinema international competition comprises 18 titles, including UK director Clio Bernard\u2019s I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning\u00a0and US filmmaker Tim Blake Nelson\u2019s The Life And Deaths Of Wilson Shedd.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning\u00a0won the Directors\u2019 Fortnight audience award this year at Cannes, while The Life And Deaths Of Wilson Shedd recently\u00a0world premiered at Toronto.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, there are world premieres for Swedish filmmaker Lisa Forslund\u2019s debut Clementine Orange in the Freestyle Film section, and series two of Hulu\u2019s Ryan Murphy legal drama All\u2019s Fair, whose cast includes Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts and Glenn Close.<\/p>\n
High-profile international films also launching into Italy in the festival\u2019s non-competitive sections include Jesse Eisenberg\u2019s The Debut, Diego Luna\u2019s Ashes, Rodrigo Sorogoyen\u2019s The Beloved, French epic De Gaulle, Simon Stone\u2019s Elsinore, Peter Farrelly\u2019s I Play Rocky, Taika Waititi\u2019s Klara And The Sun, Fatih Akin\u2019s Ghost Song, Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi\u2019s La Bola Negra,\u00a0and Pawel Pawlikowski\u2019s Fatherland.<\/p>\n
As previously announced, the world premiere of Paolo Genovese\u2019s Il Rumore Delle Cose Nuove will open the festival.<\/p>\n
Javier Bardem and UK producer Tessa Ross\u00a0will both receive lifetime achievement awards in Rome.<\/p>\n
Alongside its non-competitive sections, Rome\u00a0presents a best first feature award, selected from films across the programme, as well as a best documentary prize, a music award and an audience award.<\/p>\n
Paola Malanga is the festival\u2019s artistic director, supported by a selection committee comprising Giovanna Fulvi, Alberto Libera, Enrico Magrelli, Emanuela Martini and Alberto Pezzotta.<\/p>\n
