{"id":7586,"date":"2026-04-17T09:40:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T09:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/7586\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T09:40:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T09:40:08","slug":"conde-nast-to-shut-down-italian-edition-of-wired","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/italy\/7586\/","title":{"rendered":"Cond\u00e9 Nast to shut down Italian edition of WIRED"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                                                        News announced on day of journalists&#8217; strike in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Cond\u00e9 Nast has announced the closure of\u00a0WIRED Italia, the Italian-language edition of the prominent technology publication, as part of a broader restructuring of the publishing group.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>WIRED\u00a0is\u00a0an\u00a0American magazine and digital publication launched in 1993, focused on how emerging technologies affect business, science, culture, and politics.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The move was set out in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.condenast.com\/news\/a-memo-from-ceo-roger-lynch-brand-and-technology-updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" title=\"a\u00a0statement\">a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0by Cond\u00e9 Nast CEO Roger Lynch, who said the Italian edition of\u00a0WIRED\u00a0&#8220;has not kept pace with growth in our other markets&#8221;, including in the US, UK, Middle East, Japan and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lynch acknowledged that\u00a0WIRED\u00a0&#8220;remains a strong global brand&#8221; but said the Italian operation would cease.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The closure of\u00a0WIRED Italia, which was established in 2009, forms part of a wider set of cuts.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>SELF\u00a0magazine, which has been online-only since 2017, will also close down, with health and wellness content integrated into other Cond\u00e9 Nast titles such as\u00a0Allure\u00a0and\u00a0Glamour.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Glamour&#8217;s publishing operations in Germany, Spain and Mexico will also be wound down.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lynch wrote that\u00a0WIRED Italia,\u00a0SELF\u00a0and the affected\u00a0Glamour\u00a0markets together account for a little over one per cent of the group&#8217;s total revenue, adding that they &#8220;remain unprofitable&#8221; and that continuing to run them &#8220;limits our ability to invest in the ideas and areas that will drive future growth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lynch also announced that the company&#8217;s technology division would be restructured, &#8220;reflecting the rapid advancement of AI and its impact on our ability to innovate and build products faster.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He described the decisions as difficult but insisted they were not a reflection of the quality of the work produced. &#8220;None of these are easy decisions, nor are they a reflection of the quality of the work, or the commitment from our teams,&#8221; he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The announcement of the closure of\u00a0WIRED Italia\u00a0coincided with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wantedinrome.com\/news\/italian-journalists-stage-new-strike-over-decade-old-contract-dispute.html\" title=\"a national journalists&#039; strike in Italy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a national journalists&#8217; strike in Italy<\/a>\u00a0called over the failure to renew the national collective contract, which has been expired for a decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Photo WIRED Italia &#8211; Facebook<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"News announced on day of journalists&#8217; strike in Italy.
