First of its kind in Japan! Reservations for “Sky Square,” which enables audio recording in a large-scale outdoor field, are now being accepted.
AZSTOKE, a game sound developer, has opened Japan’s first large scale foley field “Sky Square” in Shioyama, Koshu City, Yamanashi Prefecture! By securing a large field as its own base, AZSTOKE will be able to realize large-scale and dynamic environmental sound and Foley recording, which was not possible with conventional in-studio recording.
At “Sky Square,” the natural environment is converted directly into a studio in order to realize recording in a large scale and realistic environment. The vast site is currently being optimized for ” large-scale Foley recording ” by making the best use of the space.
The demand for more immersive, realistic sound continues to grow in today’s game sound production. While studio facilities have become the standard, “Sky Square” was established with a focus on the possibilities of “outdoor” sound that transcends the boundaries of studio facilities.

Four categories of sound are available for outdoor recording, emphasizing ” physical mass ” and ” spatial dynamics,” which were impossible to record in a conventional indoor studio.

Objects: Shoes, axes, iron, pieces of wood, chunks of concrete
This category allows recording of materials that can be directly handled by humans, with a “vast outdoor atmosphere” that is difficult to reproduce in a typical studio. The sound of various footsteps on natural soil, gravel, and grass, chopping wood with an axe, and the sound of wood chips and stones colliding are captured in a pure state with no unwanted reflections. The sound can be recorded with natural resonance and fine detail, which can never be obtained in a studio booth!

Objects: Heavy objects that cannot be carried by humans, rocks, large steel objects, and huge fallen trees.
This category, which is a symbol of SkySquare, is for sounds that cannot be handled by human power, such as huge rocks, massive metal blocks, and large-diameter fallen trees that are manipulated with heavy machinery. The “real ground-shaking bass” produced by striking, crushing, or dragging these objects is safely and dynamically recorded. The energy released by the overwhelming mass is fully contained in the sound.

This category specializes in electric tools with sparks, dust, and intense noise, which are difficult to record indoors. The driving sound of high-revving motors such as chainsaws and grinders, and the intense friction sound of cutting materials can be recorded in an open-air environment equipped with a power source. This category provides uncompromised ” real drive sound ” and enables the pursuit of high realism.
