MR Porter has launched its new menswear campaign, Made In Japan, which highlights 19 Japanese designers. The new effort aims to address the concept that “A trip to Japan can be a lesson in humility. You may think that what you’re wearing is taken into consideration. Well put together, even. Then, as you saunter through the streets of Tokyo, you encounter a workman. Just a random guy, fixing a rare pothole in the road. And you come to the realization that his outfit is considerably more put together than yours.”
The campaign features pieces from A.PRESSE, ATON, Auralee, Beams Plus, Blue Blue Japan, FULLCOUNT, Human Made, KAPITAL, Neighborhood, OrSlow, PROLETA RE ART, Porter-Yoshida and Co, Remi Relief, Sacai, Sato, ssstein, visvim, WTAPS, and features a 10-piece exclusive capsule from Kaptain Sunshine. Key pieces include the Blue Blue Japan Nenrin Indigo-Dyed Patchwork Linen Blazer, the FULLCOUNT Type 2 Denim Jacket, and the Sato Perse M-1 Round-Frame Tortoiseshell Acetate Sunglasses.
According to MR Porter, “The secret to Japanese style is in part cultural. Getting dressed is just another facet of a wider set of philosophies. From a deep-seated appreciation for traditional methods of manufacture and craftsmanship to mono no aware, the inherent recognition for material items and how they change over time. Much of this can be studied or taught, but some is ingrained. There is no substitute for growing up fully immersed in it.”
