Japan Finally Takes Centre Stage
Ever since the series exploded in popularity, Japan has remained the dream destination many players hoped Horizon would eventually visit. From winding Touge roads to crowded city streets and deep-rooted car culture, the setting almost feels tailor-made for the franchise.
Forza Horizon 6 embraces that expectation. Players begin as a tourist arriving at the Horizon Festival before gradually climbing the ranks from rookie driver to Horizon Legend, all while exploring a densely packed world full of contrasting environments.
Tokyo itself becomes one of the headline attractions. Playground Games describes it as the biggest city ever featured in a Horizon game, complete with industrial districts, docks, suburbs and sprawling downtown roads built for high-speed cruising and car meets.
Outside the city, the wider map stretches across mountain valleys, rural scenery and diverse biomes designed to showcase Japan’s unique mix of urban and natural landscapes.
More Than 550 Cars And A Huge Focus On Car Culture
Naturally, the cars remain central to everything. It wouldn’t be a Forza game if it didn’t and if you want to take a dive into the wider franchise, check out our dedicated Forza Horizon 6 coverage found inside our wider Forza hub, bringing together reviews, retrospectives and opinions from across the series.
Forza Horizon 6 launches with more than 550 real-world vehicles, including a heavy emphasis on fan-favourite Japanese cars and JDM legends. Playground Games has also introduced updated steering animations, improved engine audio and new customisation features, including expanded body kit and aero options.
Players can collect rare Aftermarket Cars, unlock Forza Edition variants and customise garages inside purchasable homes scattered throughout Japan. There is even a fully customisable Valley Estate where showcase spaces can be created for collections. Of course, there’s the chance to download community-made garage layouts online.
EventLab Evolves Into Horizon CoLab
Creative players are getting more freedom than ever too.
The upgraded Horizon CoLab system expands on EventLab by allowing multiplayer building support and the ability to create custom events virtually anywhere in the game world. Combined with returning multiplayer modes like The Eliminator, Hide & Seek, Spec Racing Championships and Car Meets, Playground Games is clearly aiming to keep the community-driven side of Horizon front and centre.
The co-op campaign also returns, allowing players to experience the main progression together as they work towards unlocking Legend Island.
A Huge Moment For Xbox Racing Fans
We have covered Forza Horizon 6 extensively over recent months, from its original unveiling through to its confirmed release date and its inclusion in our Best Games of May feature. It has comfortably been one of the most anticipated Xbox releases of 2026.
The Horizon series has spent years refining its formula into one of the strongest open-world racing franchises in gaming, balancing arcade accessibility with a staggering amount of content and polish. Japan now gives the series a setting capable of matching the scale of those ambitions.
