JAL Halts Boeing 767 Freighter Service on Tokyo Narita–Hong Kong Route for Maintenance - News and Statistics

Japan Airlines (JAL) has temporarily halted its own Boeing 767 freighter service on the Tokyo Narita to Hong Kong route, according to a report from Air Cargo News published on 15 June 2026. The suspension is attributed to aircraft rotation adjustments needed for scheduled maintenance, though the route will continue to be served through a codeshare partnership.

Effective from 15 June, JAL’s summer schedule change maintains capacity on the Narita–Hong Kong sector via cargo codeshare operations with Kalitta Air. The company stated that by combining Kalitta Air’s Narita–Hong Kong service with the Narita–Chicago route, JAL will continue to address strong demand between Asia and North America. The Narita–Chicago flights are also operated by Kalitta Air under a codeshare arrangement.

JAL and Kalitta Air originally signed a codeshare agreement for regular cargo flights from Tokyo Narita to Chicago O’Hare starting in May 2025. In December of that year, the two airlines agreed to increase the weekly frequency of codeshare cargo flights operated by Kalitta Air on that route to meet demand. Since 10 May 2026, these flights have been conducted on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using 747-400 freighters.

Additionally, JAL noted that Western Global Airlines is operating extra charter flights on the same route on Thursdays and Saturdays, also using a 747-400F. For flight services starting from 16 September 2026, as well as certain routes and periods still under adjustment, the airline indicated that further updates will be provided.

JAL re-entered the all-cargo market in early 2024 after a 13-year hiatus, introducing three converted Boeing 767-300ERs. Kalitta Air has previously conducted codeshare operations with JAL, including in 2019 and 2023.
