Amogy and KOWA Partnership for Ammonia-Based Hydrogen Supply in Japan

Amogy and KOWA Company, Ltd. have entered a partnership to deliver ammonia cracking-based hydrogen supply solutions in Japan, according to a joint announcement made on June 16, 2026. The collaboration follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two firms in April 2026.

The companies will jointly evaluate opportunities to deploy these solutions, with an initial focus on Japan’s Chubu region. They plan to assess how ammonia can function as a practical and efficient hydrogen carrier, facilitating the transport, storage, and delivery of low-carbon hydrogen for industrial uses and broader energy infrastructure.

As Japan works to build a hydrogen-based economy and meet its decarbonization goals, ammonia is increasingly seen as a key energy carrier that can address logistical hurdles in hydrogen transport and storage. By converting ammonia back into hydrogen at the point of use through advanced cracking technology, stakeholders can create new delivery pathways while leveraging existing ammonia supply chains and infrastructure.

The partnership combines Amogy’s proprietary ammonia cracking technology and expertise in ammonia-based energy systems with KOWA’s business network, industrial capabilities, and long-standing market presence in Japan. Together, the companies aim to support a robust hydrogen supply chain and contribute to Japan’s long-term energy transition.

Amogy’s CEO, Seonghoon Woo, commented that the company is pleased to work with KOWA to support the development of Japan’s hydrogen economy.
