Typhoon Higos brushed past areas near Tokyo on Saturday, bringing heavy rain to Japan’s Pacific coastal regions, while a stronger typhoon approaching behind it was expected to bring additional rainfall and increase the risk of landslides and flooding later in the day, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, News.Az reports, citing Kyodo.

The two typhoons, combined with a seasonal rain front, have already triggered heavy downpours across western and southwestern Japan, causing landslides and damaging roads.

In Yamaguchi Prefecture, one person remained missing and several others were injured after a house collapsed in a landslide on Friday.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said Typhoon Higos weakened into a tropical depression on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, Typhoon Mekkhala was moving northeastward over the Pacific along Japan’s western coast and could make landfall in the country’s eastern region.

The agency forecast up to 250 millimeters of rainfall in the Tokai region and up to 200 millimeters in the Kanto-Koshin region, including Tokyo, by Sunday morning.
