Los Angeles’ iconic Pink’s Hot Dogs to open first Japan location in Tokyo

One of Los Angeles’ most iconic spots is Pink’s Hot Dogs. Pink’s is known for oversized hot dogs featuring toppings including chili, cheese, bacon, jalapeños and onion rings. Now, the eatery that started as a pushcart more than eight decades ago plans to open its first restaurant in Japan by the end of the year.

The family-run hot dog business is partnering with Japanese restaurant management company Sunpark to open a location in Tokyo. Sunpark operates more than 100 restaurants throughout Japan and brings extensive experience in restaurant operations.

“Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming so many guests from Japan to Pink’s in Los Angeles, and it has always meant a great deal to our family to see the enthusiasm and affection they have for Pink’s,” Pink’s Hot Dogs co-owner Richard Pink said.

An exact location in Tokyo and opening date have not been announced.

The Tokyo restaurant will offer around 15 varieties of hot dogs, along with hamburgers, side dishes, desserts and drinks. Japan-exclusive items tailored to local tastes are also planned.

Pink’s Hot Dogs and Sunpark plan to expand out of Tokyo as well.

From Paul and Betty Pink purchasing a pushcart for $50 in 1939 and selling hot dogs, to then a permanent location on La Brea Avenue in 1946, to now going across the globe to Tokyo, this business never stops thriving.

Pink’s remains family-operated and has expanded beyond its original Los Angeles location, with multiple restaurants in Southern California and Nevada, and now, soon to be, Tokyo.
