Keigo Higashino’s Eien no Kioku (which roughly translates to “eternal memory”) hits No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100, on the chart released Aug. 13.

The latest novel from Higashino — published posthumously following his death on July 23 at age 68 — leads brick-and-mortar and social media to accumulate 16,394 points this week, the highest single-week point total ever recorded for a novel on the chart. The previous record was held by Uketsu’s Hen na Chizu (Strange Maps, 11,566 points), which topped the chart in its very first week on the list released Nov. 6, 2025.

Eiichiro Oda’s ONE PIECE Vol. 115 climbs 17-2 following the release of its digital edition, topping the e-books metric. The volume also places No. 13 in brick-and-mortar, a sign of its enduring popularity more than a month after its initial release. Yuto Suzuki’s SAKAMOTO DAYS Vol. 28 enters at No. 3, placing No. 2 in both brick-and-mortar and e-books. The final volume of Yuuki Tabata’s Black Clover, serialized since 2015, places No. 3 in both brick-and-mortar and e-books to land at No. 4 overall.

Elsewhere on the chart, all 37 volumes of Hiroya Oku’s GANTZ charts between No. 14 and No. 51 following an e-book sale at major digital retailers this week. [Note: Shohei Manabe’s Kujo no Taizai (Sins of Kujo) Vol. 17 charts at No. 21.]
