Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Guo Jiakun, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, announced in response to the entry of the warship into the Taiwan Strait that Beijing has conveyed its strong protest to the Japanese government through diplomatic channels. He described the move as a serious threat to the national sovereignty and security of his country.
The Beijing official stated: “The entry of the Japanese military vessel into this waterway once again exposed the dangerous intentions of some circles in Tokyo to militarily intervene in Taiwan affairs and disrupt regional peace and stability.” He warned that the continuation of such actions would pose a direct threat to the political foundations of relations between the two neighboring countries.
The spokesperson for the Chinese diplomatic service also stressed that Tokyo should seriously reconsider its recent behavior and be more cautious in its words and actions to prevent further deterioration of the situation in East Asia.
It is worth noting that the Taiwan Strait has always been one of the most challenging points in the world’s geopolitical landscape, and Beijing considers it part of its sovereign territory, while some countries in the region and Western powers, citing international law, emphasize freedom of navigation in this route.
Reports from local sources in East Asia indicate that this is the first time in recent decades that a Japanese warship has openly passed through the strait.
Some Japanese media have announced that this action was taken in response to the recent entry of a Chinese aircraft carrier near Japanese territorial waters.
At the same time, it has been reported that the Chinese army has begun limited military exercises on its eastern coast in response to this move and has increased the level of alert of its naval forces. Also, news sources report telephone calls between defense officials of the two countries to prevent any unwanted military clashes.
According to experts, the passage of a Japanese military vessel through the Taiwan Strait indicates a tangible change in Tokyo’s defense doctrine and its desire to play a more active role in the security equations of the region.
Political observers say that this action could mean the end of Japan’s traditional period of restraint in the face of Beijing’s sensitivities. Studies show that Tokyo’s increasing alignment with Washington’s regional policies is the main factor emboldening Japan’s defense forces to challenge China’s red lines.
According to experts, although the parties are currently seeking to manage the crisis through diplomatic channels, the repetition of such actions could lead to the blocking of dialogue paths and an increase in the possibility of physical confrontation in the disputed waters. According to experts, these moves come at a time when the region needs stability more than ever, and any miscalculation could have irreparable consequences for global trade.
