KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City travelers looking to swap Midwest plains for Portuguese vineyards, Icelandic glaciers or Tokyo’s neon streets will have an easier journey next summer.
American Airlines announced plans to expand its international network for summer 2027, offering one-stop connections from Kansas City International Airport (MCI) to five major global destinations.
Starting in spring and summer 2027, travelers can connect through American’s hubs in Chicago (ORD), Philadelphia (PHL), and Charlotte (CLT) to reach cities in Europe and Asia.

The new international connections from MCI include:
Tokyo (NRT): Connecting through Chicago (ORD) starting March 19 aboard a Boeing 787-9. Chicago is served 5X daily from MCI.Porto, Portugal (OPO): Connecting through Philadelphia (PHL) starting March 28 aboard an Airbus A321XLR. Philadelphia is served 4X daily from MCI.Vienna, Austria (VIE): Connecting through Philadelphia (PHL) starting May 6 aboard an Airbus A321XLR.Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF): Connecting through Philadelphia (PHL) starting May 27 aboard an Airbus A321neo.Barcelona, Spain (BCN): Connecting through Charlotte (CLT) starting May 27 aboard a Boeing 777-200ER. Charlotte is served 2X daily from MCI.
