Ukraine has received $51.5 million from Japan under the World Bank’s THRIVE project to support its healthcare system, Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said on September 26.
The funds have already been transferred to Ukraine’s state budget and will be used to improve the efficiency of the Medical Guarantees Program and strengthen the institutional capacity of the National Health Service of Ukraine, UATV English reported.
“Ukraine has attracted $51.5 million from the Japanese government under the World Bank’s THRIVE project to develop the healthcare system. The funds have already been transferred to the state budget,” Koretskyi said.
The prime minister noted that the total THRIVE program is worth $1.2 billion. Ukraine has already received $449 million under the initiative.
Koretskyi expressed gratitude to the governments of Japan and the World Bank for their continued support, saying the funding contributes to Ukraine’s financial resilience and the development of its healthcare system.
The latest funding comes as Ukraine continues to receive international financial assistance. Earlier, the EU Council approved the eighth regular tranche under the Ukraine Facility, with Kyiv expected to receive nearly €3 billion.
