With Japanese territory stretching to within 110km (70 miles) of Taiwan, Tokyo worries that any attempt by Beijing to seize the island could draw it into a conflict.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Soon after Russia launched the war against its smaller neighbour in 2022, Japan\u2019s then-prime minister, Fumio Kishida, warned that \u201cUkraine today could be East Asia tomorrow\u201d.
