TOKYO (Gray DC) – President Donald Trump addressed thousands of sailors stationed in Japan Tuesday aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington after holding a bilateral meeting with Japan\u2019s new conservative Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi. (SUN-EYE TAKA-ICHI)<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve come this afternoon to celebrate the strength and the skill and service of everyone in this,\u201d Trump said to the assembled troops.<\/p>\n
With Takaichi by his side, Trump thanked Japan for its partnership as a U.S. ally.<\/p>\n
\u201cBorn out of the ashes of a terrible war, a bond has grown over eight decades into the beautiful friendship that we have. It\u2019s the foundation of peace and security in the Pacific,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n
In Tokyo, Trump thanked Japanese business leaders for continuing to invest in the American economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cJapan is already America\u2019s sixth largest trading partner. And I think as of today, that\u2019s that\u2019s kind of probably two notches. And the number one source of foreign direct investment,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n
He announced about $500 billion in commitments from business leaders, including $10 billion from Toyota to build new manufacturing plants in the U.S.<\/p>\n
Trump\u2019s next stop on his Asian tour is South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit and a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Officials from both countries have said that a trade deal between the U.S. and China is nearly complete.<\/p>\n
