{"id":17099,"date":"2026-05-04T23:57:26","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T23:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/17099\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T23:57:26","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T23:57:26","slug":"naomi-osaka-served-up-high-style-and-more-than-3200-hours-of-handiwork-at-the-2026-met-gala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/17099\/","title":{"rendered":"Naomi Osaka Served Up High Style\u2014and More Than 3,200 Hours of Handiwork\u2014at the 2026 Met Gala"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome back to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/tag\/event\/met-gala\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Met Gala<\/a>, Naomi Osaka!<\/p>\n<p>For the tennis star\u2019s first appearance on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/slideshow\/met-gala-2026-red-carpet-celebrity-arrivals-live\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Met steps<\/a> since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/beyonce-nicole-kidman-venus-williams-anna-wintour-2026-met-gala\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">co-chairing<\/a> the event in 2021, she picked out a custom two-piece set from couturier Robert Wun. \u201cObviously, a lot of people know me for my tennis outfits, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/everything-to-know-met-gala\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Met Gala<\/a> is the Grand Slam of fashion,\u201d Osaka told Vogue in an exclusive interview. \u201cTo have the opportunity to be here and express my style on this stage is something that\u2019s really cool for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was hardly Osaka and Wun\u2019s first collaboration. For the 2026 Australian Open, Osaka wore a custom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/naomi-osaka-2026-australian-open-fashion\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nike x Robert Wun tennis kit<\/a> that even included a signature Wun umbrella and hat. But it wasn\u2019t until their Met Gala fittings at the designer\u2019s studio in London that the two finally had the opportunity to meet in person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was so appreciative to meet him and see how he works,\u201d says Osaka. \u201cHe didn\u2019t have an ego and was just willing to change things to make me more comfortable or hear my perspective on things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The result of that meeting was a look that merged Wun\u2019s penchant for dramatics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/article\/robert-wun-spring-2023-couture-debut\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">(remember his wine-stained wedding gown for spring 2023?)<\/a> with Osaka\u2019s natural ability to make fashion headlines. \u201cThe look debuts with a two-part act on the carpet,\u201d explains Wun. \u201cFirst is a sculpted ivory coat, with open seams exposing red crystals from within, adorned with stripped feathers flaring outwards like a fountain shape.\u201d Then comes the interior portion: a stunning fitted red crystallized gown featuring over 659,000 stitches of intricate embroidery. \u201cIt totals over 3,280 hours of handiwork and thousands of faceted Swarovski crystals in four shades of red that illustrate the human anatomy, needle by needle, crystal by crystal,\u201d Wun continues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m blown away by the whole creation,\u201d says Osaka\u2014and she isn\u2019t alone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.com\/tag\/event\/met-gala\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Met Gala 2026<\/a>: See Every Celebrity Arrival, Read the Latest Stories, and Get Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Access Here<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Welcome back to the Met Gala, Naomi Osaka!
