{"id":17327,"date":"2026-05-05T09:38:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T09:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/17327\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T09:38:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T09:38:10","slug":"japans-osaka-gas-launches-sts-lng-bunkering-ops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/17327\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan\u2019s Osaka Gas launches STS LNG bunkering ops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Osaka Gas said in a recent statement that the 3,610-cbm LNG bunkering vessel delivered LNG fuel to a dual-fuel Capesize bulk carrier at JFE Steel Corporation\u2019s West Japan Works in Fukuyama District, Hiroshima, on April 21.<\/p>\n<p>With this development, Osaka Gas has become a supplier for marine LNG fuel with all three primary supply methods, ship-to-ship, truck-to-ship, and port-to-ship, it said.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the company<a href=\"https:\/\/lngprime.com\/asia\/japans-osaka-gas-to-launch-sts-lng-bunkering-ops-in-april\/179715\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> announced <\/a>that it plans to start STS LNG bunkering with Seto Azure after Shitanoe Shipbuilding held a naming ceremony for the 82.29-meter-long vessel.<\/p>\n<p>Shitanoe built the vessel for Osaka Bay LNG Shipping, in which Osaka Gas International Transport, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas, has invested.<\/p>\n<p>Other partners include NS United Coastal Tanker Kaisha (NSUT) and Kobe-Osaka International Port Corporation (HPC).<\/p>\n<p>Osaka Gas\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lngprime.com\/asia\/japans-osaka-gas-and-partners-in-lng-bunkering-move\/84777\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a>\u00a0this joint venture back in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel features a type C independent tank and LNG\/fuel oil dual-fuel engine.<\/p>\n<p>Osaka Gas said the STS method, where an LNG bunkering vessel directly supplies fuel to ships at berth or anchorage, offers a high degree of operational flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>It also enhances operational redundancy and supply resilience by enabling LNG loading at Osaka Gas\u2019 Senboku LNG terminal in Osaka and Himeji LNG terminal in Hyogo, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Osaka Gas noted that an increasing number of LNG-fueled vessels have come into operation in recent years, driven by the global trend of marine fuel decarbonization and the target set by the IMO to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The company said that LNG-fueled vessels can \u201csignificantly\u201d reduce carbon dioxide emissions compared to the traditional use of heavy oil as marine fuel.<\/p>\n<p>However, LNG bunkering infrastructure has remained limited in Japan, it said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Osaka Gas said in a recent statement that the 3,610-cbm LNG bunkering vessel delivered LNG fuel to a&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":17328,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[8,85,11001],"class_list":{"0":"post-17327","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-osaka","8":"tag-japan","9":"tag-osaka","10":"tag-osaka-gas"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17327","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=17327"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/17327\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/17328"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=17327"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=17327"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=17327"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
