Last year, it was revealed FromSoftware\u2019s 2019 game\u00a0Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice <\/a>was jumping to animation with the No Defeat\u00a0anime<\/a>. With a release window of sometime this year, it appears the anime is looking to get eyes on it by coming to the big screen.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Kadokawa announced a three-week theatrical run for the series\u2019 early episodes starting September 4. At time of writing, these screenings look to be exclusive to Japan, but it\u2019s not the anime\u2019s only showing. During France\u2019s Annecy International Animated Film Festival in June, No Defeat\u00a0will screen out of competition in the \u201cMidnight Special<\/a>\u201d category.<\/p>\n

Developed by Qzil.la and helmed by director Kenichi Kutsuna,\u00a0Sekiro: No Defeat\u00a0adapts\u00a0Shadows Die Twice\u2019s\u00a0story: set during the late Sengoku period, the shinobi Wolf embarks on a quest to save his young lord. To do that, Wolf will cross paths (and blades) with several characters and use his new prosthetic to aid him in his quest. Along with bringing over the story and enemies of the game, the anime features some of the game\u2019s Japanese cast: Daisuke Namikawa as Wolf, Miyuki Satou as Kuro, and Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina.<\/p>\n

Sekiro: No Defeat\u00a0is expected to release later in 2026 on Crunchyroll for non-Japanese territories. Hopefully those theatrical screenings expand outside Japan before the show hits television. Until then, might as well play (or replay) the game to get an idea of what to expect. And if either version of Sekiro\u2019s not to your liking, there\u2019s always Elden Ring, whose own film adaptation<\/a> arrives in 2028.<\/p>\n
