OKAYAMA, Japan (MNTV) \u2013 A company in Soja, Okayama Prefecture of Japan, has developed a compact, easy-to-install prayer room designed to help tourist sites and businesses accommodate Muslim visitors, reports The Japan News.<\/p>\n
The product, called \u201cPrayer Space,\u201d was developed by a staff member of OM Kiki Co.<\/p>\n
The idea came about after a trip he took in the prefecture with a Muslim friend from Malaysia, during which his friend had a hard time finding a place to pray.<\/p>\n
The company started selling the new product in December.<\/p>\n
The wooden structure has a height of 180 centimetres, and the floor is 150 centimetres squared.<\/p>\n
Since Muslims are required to pray multiple times during the workday and must ritually cleanse their hands, feet, face with water, the floor has a waterproof, easy-to-clean mat.<\/p>\n
A marker on the ceiling can be rotated to show the direction of Makkah.<\/p>\n
A survey conducted on Muslims who have visited Japan asked, \u201cDo you prioritize whether a place of worship is available at your travel destination?\u201d<\/p>\n
Of the 107 respondents, 72% men and 79% women answered \u201cyes.\u201d<\/p>\n
