Sushiro, one of Japan’s largest conveyor belt sushi chains, will reportedly open its first U.S. location in Times Square this fall<\/p>\n

The 9,000-square-foot restaurant will feature conveyor belt dining, private dining rooms, and a tech-driven ordering system, according to reports<\/p>\n

Sushiro is known for affordable sushi, traditional Japanese dishes and desserts like warabimochi and catalana<\/p>\n

A popular sushi chain in Japan will be making its U.S. debut soon.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sushiro, a popular restaurant from Japan that features sushi served on a conveyor belt, will be opening its first U.S. restaurant in New York City, according to Timeout<\/a>, Eater<\/a> and NY Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The chain will open its first restaurant in Times Square at 667 Eighth Avenue at West 42nd Street \u2014 near the Port Authority Bus Terminal \u2014 in the fall, according to the outlets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PEOPLE reached out to Sushiro’s parent company, Food & Life Companies LTD.for comment but did not immediately receive a response.<\/p>\n

The restaurant features 9,000 square feet of space and 170 seats across three floors, according to Eater. The first two floors will be for its main conveyor-belt dining rooms, while there will be private dining in the cellar with a sushi bar, per the outlet.<\/p>\n

Sushiro will take the location over from a McDonald’s that was previously at the address.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At Sushiro, people will be seated in booths and they can order sushi through digital kiosks. The sushi will then be sent over to their booths via a conveyor belt that will be threaded from the kitchen to the dining room.<\/p>\n

The dining room menu will consist of many of its popular dishes including sushi, noodle dishes like ramen and somen, and steamed egg custards, according to Eater. It will also serve up some popular desserts such as catalana (a dessert with a rich custard base), warabimochi (a traditional Japanese jelly-like confection made from bracken starch and sugar) and an assortment of sorbets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The restaurant, which was founded in Osaka, Japan, in 1984, is the largest dine-in sushi restaurant chain in the world, according to NY Post. It has more than 800 locations globally, and is well known for its high-quality, affordable sushi and a tech-driven dining experience, per the outlet.<\/p>\n

Before the announcement that Sushiro was opening its own restaurant, the chain had soft-launched its food through several pop-ups over the last several years, per Eater.<\/p>\n

There was previously a restaurant in New York City that had the same name, though the representative for Sushiro told Eater that the restaurant had no connection to the Japan-originated chain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sushiro is one of the world’s top conveyor belt restaurants that has recently made its way to the east coast of the U.S. It follows the lead of other Japan-based chains like Kura Sushi, which first opened in New Jersey in 2022. The restaurant chain also opened a location in Flushing, New York in 2023, according to Eater.\u00a0<\/p>\n
