Katsuhiro Harada has officially launched a new game development company called SNK<\/a> VS Studio. The studio is based in Shinagawa, Tokyo, and will operate under Harada’s leadership as chief executive officer.<\/p>\n

The announcement follows Harada’s departure from Bandai Namco after decades of work on the legendary “Tekken” franchise, where he became one of the most recognizable figures in competitive gaming.<\/p>\n

Harada said that the “VS” in VS Studio carries multiple meanings<\/a>, including “Video Game Soft” and the competitive spirit of “versus” that defines fighting games. He explained that the company’s philosophy focuses on innovation, creativity, and challenging traditional game development methods.<\/p>\n

The 55-year-old game director said the studio plans to combine advanced technology, artistic creativity, and global development talent to produce memorable gaming experiences for players worldwide. He also added that creating an open and collaborative environment where developers can experiment freely with new ideas.<\/p>\n

Strong Connection to SNK and Fighting Games<\/p>\n

Harada’s new venture also strengthens his connection with SNK, the iconic publisher behind franchises such as “The King of Fighters<\/a>“, “Fatal Fury,” and “Samurai Shodown.”<\/p>\n

Although Harada did not announce any official projects, he confirmed that future games from VS Studio will continue focusing on action gameplay and competitive player-versus-player experiences. He also hinted that working on existing SNK franchises remains a possibility.<\/p>\n

Former ‘Tekken’ Developers Join the Studio<\/p>\n

According to VGC<\/a>, several longtime collaborators have already joined the new company, including Yuichi Yonemori, who previously directed multiple “Tekken” titles such as “Tekken Tag Tournament” and “Tekken Tag Tournament 2.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Yasuyuki Oda from SNK welcomed Harada to the company, describing him as both a longtime rival and friend.<\/p>\n
