{"id":26013,"date":"2026-05-20T17:49:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T17:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/26013\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T17:49:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T17:49:16","slug":"japan-clarifies-legal-status-of-foreign-trust-based-stablecoins-ledger-insights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/26013\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan clarifies legal status of foreign trust-based stablecoins &#8211; Ledger Insights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Japan\u2019s Financial Services Agency (FSA) has finalized rules creating a regulatory pathway for foreign trust-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ledgerinsights.com\/stablecoins\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stablecoins<\/a>, effective 1 June 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign stablecoins can only circulate in Japan through a locally licensed intermediary. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ledgerinsights.com\/usdc-stablecoin-to-launch-in-japan-after-sbi-vc-trade-gets-a-license\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SBI VC Trade<\/a> became the first to obtain such a license in March 2025, enabling it to distribute Circle\u2019s USDC. But that license alone doesn\u2019t resolve the status of every type of foreign stablecoin.
