Chery<\/a> joint venture EMT will launch the Emta K-car (kei car) in 2027 to compete with the BYD<\/a> Racco. The new EV will adopt a Gotion-made battery onboard. The Emta brand will comprise four cars by the end of 2029.<\/p>\n

Emta is a car brand under the Singapore-based Electric Mobility Technologies (EMT). It is a joint venture between Chery Automobile (holding the 27.27% share), Jiangsu Yueda Automobile Group (27.27%), Autobacs Seven (18.18%), Gotion (18.18%), and Anest (9.09%). The brand\u2019s officials prefer to write \u201cEmta\u201d with capital letters, like EMTA. However, it isn\u2019t actually an abbreviation. Therefore, we at CarNewsChina will stick to the Emta variant.<\/p>\n

According to the official information, Chery will act as a tech provider. Emta cars will adopt architecture, electric drive system, and assisted driving tech from the Wuhu-based automaker. Yueda\u2019s Yancheng plant<\/a> will take care of the manufacturing of the new brand\u2019s vehicles. This production facility was responsible for producing Kia and HiPhi<\/a> vehicles. It was previously rumored that Chery is about to take over this plant. As it turned out, it wasn\u2019t an acquisition but an export-focused joint project.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Emta\u2019s upcoming lineup<\/p>\n

Chery\u2019s long-term partner<\/a> Gotion will supply batteries for Emta cars. The Japanese auto parts supplier Autobacs Seven will be responsible for the sales channels. As for the Anest, it will take care of quality support. It is worth noting that Chery\u2019s officials distanced themselves from the project, officially saying that they act as a shareholder and don\u2019t participate in the daily operation and management.<\/p>\n

Emta representatives shared that product concepts and design decisions are led by the Japanese team with backgrounds at Honda and Mazda. The brand\u2019s chief marketing officer is former Nissan China GM Susumu Uchikoshi. And the CEO is the former president of Changan Ford, He Xiaoqing. Emta plans to launch its first car in Japan in 2027. It also has a goal of introducing three more models to the local market. In case of success, Emta will consider establishing the manufacturing plant in Japan after 2030.<\/p>\n

Emta\u2019s first vehicle<\/p>\n

The first vehicle under Emta is a boxy K-car. Its official name has yet to be revealed. But we can notice the #01 inscription on the car\u2019s door. It hints that this EV will be called Emta #01. In terms of exterior styling, this K-car looks like a five-door variant of the Chery QQ Ice Cream<\/a> electric city car launched in China in 2021.<\/p>\n

The Emta #01 has blocky headlights, blackened pillars, and a minimalistic bumper. It also has unusually small side-view mirrors. They could actually be cameras. The length of the Emta K-car is 3.4 meters, with a width of 1.48 meters. The brand\u2019s officials highlighted that this vehicle has a collision safety performance of large vehicles. Specs, trim levels, and prices of the Emta #01 have yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n

Upcoming cars from Emta include a hatchback, an SUV, and a minivan. More information about them as we get it. Back to the Emta #01, it will try to rival the BYD Racco K-car<\/a> that will enter the Japanese market shortly with a price of around 2.5 million yen (15,670 USD). BYD and Chery are currently fighting for the China\u2019s biggest car exporter title. According to China EV DataTracker<\/a>, BYD exported 135,098 vehicles in April 2026. Chery\u2019s export reached 177,573 cars in the same period.<\/p>\n
