YOKOHAMA \u2013 Japanese home electronics retailer Nojima is eager to boost its merger and acquisition activities, ready to spend up to \u00a5300 billion per deal, sources have said.<\/p>\n
“There is a possibility of spending \u00a5200 billion to \u00a5300 billion” per deal, President Hiroshi Nojima, 75, said in a recent interview.<\/p>\n
The company is known for its aggressive M&A activities. Its largest deal is the \u00a585.4 billion purchase of mobile phone distributor Conexio in 2023. Other acquired companies include internet business Nifty and personal computer maker Vaio.<\/p>\n
The president said potential acquisition targets are companies that can generate synergies with digital products, such as home appliances and mobile phones.<\/p>\n
Still, after the case of Suruga Bank, in which Nojima acquired a stake but later sold it, he said: “Acquisition is not the goal. If we can\u2019t strengthen our business, we let go.”<\/p>\n
The company has a target of achieving consolidated sales of \u00a51 trillion by around 2030, against \u00a5853.4 billion for the year that ended in March 2025.<\/p>\n
The target “will be raised to \u00a53 trillion in the near future,” the president said. “I want to see the number reach \u00a510 trillion while I\u2019m alive.”<\/p>\n
Overseas, the company aims to increase sales from \u00a581.3 billion to \u00a5100 billion early by expanding its operations mainly in Singapore and Malaysia.<\/p>\n
In April this year, Nojima will raise its starting monthly salary for new graduates to a maximum of \u00a5400,000.<\/p>\n
Describing human resource development as the company\u2019s “eternal theme,” the president highlighted the importance of management decisions reflecting input from front-line operations, saying, “Bosses should be utilized by subordinates.”<\/p>\n
