{"id":39598,"date":"2026-06-12T15:31:03","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T15:31:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/39598\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T15:31:03","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T15:31:03","slug":"australian-gas-projects-lng-comes-to-japan-as-jera-brings-in-first-cargo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/39598\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian gas project\u2019s LNG comes to Japan as JERA brings in first cargo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Japan\u2019s power generation major JERA has taken delivery of its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from a giant gas project off the coast of Australia\u2019s Northern Territory.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"561\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/LNG-carrier-Sohshu-Maru-at-JERAs-Futtsu-LNG-Terminal.jpg\" alt=\"LNG carrier Sohshu Maru at JERA's Futtsu LNG terminal; Source: JERA\" class=\"wp-image-796818\"  \/>LNG carrier Sohshu Maru at JERA\u2019s Futtsu LNG terminal; Source: JERA<\/p>\n<p>JERA has confirmed the arrival of its first LNG cargo at the Futtsu LNG terminal\u00a0in Japan from the Barossa gas project\u00a0in Australia, marking the start of LNG deliveries from the project to the company in support of the Asian country\u2019s stable supply.<\/p>\n<p>After the Santos-operated Barossa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/major-milestone-for-australian-project-santos-unveils-first-gas-from-bw-offshore-fpso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">came<\/a> online\u00a0in late 2025, gas produced from the offshore gas field is processed at the Darwin LNG\u00a0plant and shipped globally. The project\u2019s annual LNG production capacity is approximately 3.4 million tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>JERA, participating through its Australian subsidiary, will offtake approximately 425,000 tonnes of LNG per year in line with its equity share. The firm received its first cargo via the LNG carrier Sohshu Maru\u00a0at its Futtsu LNG terminal on June 12th.<\/p>\n<p>Irtiza Sayyed, Chief Operating Officer of JERA\u2019s LCF Business, commented: \u201cParticipation in the Barossa Gas Project allows us to meet Japan\u2019s energy security needs from a strategically important region, and contribute to broader energy stability across the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecuring stable and competitive LNG supply for Japan, in a highly volatile market, remains JERA\u2019s utmost priority.
