{"id":45792,"date":"2026-06-23T09:26:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T09:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/45792\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T09:26:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T09:26:19","slug":"japanese-pms-guwahati-visit-cancelled-modi-to-host-takaichi-in-delhi-external-affairs-defence-security-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/45792\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese PM&#8217;s Guwahati visit cancelled, Modi to host Takaichi in Delhi | External Affairs &#038; Defence Security News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tPrime Minister of Japan Sanae Takaichi\u2019s visit to Assam\u2019s capital Guwahati during July 1-3, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to host her for the India-Japan annual summit, has been cancelled because of \u201clogistical issues,\u201d sources familiar with the itinerary of the visiting delegation said on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe India-Japan summit is now likely to take place in New Delhi on the same dates.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tAccording to sources, given the Japanese PM Takaichi\u2019s domestic commitments, including an ongoing session of the Diet (Japanese Parliament), the window between her proposed arrival in India and her departure is quite tight.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\u201cIn view of this and the additional logistical issues connected to a visit outside the capital, the visit is now likely to be held in Delhi,\u201d sources cited above said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThis change in the venue of the summit would also accommodate certain programming elements which both sides are keen on to give a boost to bilateral ties, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn 2019, then Japanese PM Shinzo Abe\u2019s visit to India, where Prime Minister Modi was to host him in Guwahati, was cancelled because of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe visit from July 1-3 will be the Japanese PM\u2019s first official visit to India. \u201cApart from Delhi, Guwahati was also considered as a possible venue for the visit and was offered to the Japanese side,\u201d sources said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tA delegation comprising executives from 50 Japanese companies is accompanying the Japanese PM.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe two sides are likely to sign investment and supply chain deals, and also discuss Tokyo\u2019s financial assistance to India for setting up strategic oil reserves. Semiconductors, renewable energy, defence, critical minerals and automobiles are some other sectors where Japanese and Indian companies could sign agreements.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tDuring Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi&#8217;s visit to New Delhi for the Quad foreign ministers&#8217; meeting in May, Japanese officials expressed Tokyo\u2019s keenness to help strengthen India\u2019s energy resilience.
