(Seth Robson\/Stars and Stripes)<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan \u2014 Motorcycle riders at this airlift hub in western Tokyo have restored a Japanese sport bike damaged in a crash that took the life of a former American airman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Peter James Davidson, a civilian aircraft maintainer at Yokota, died of head injuries on Oct. 31, 2020, after his Suzuki GSX-R1000 K3 motorcycle struck the back of a minivan making a turn in Fussa near Yokota\u2019s main gate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">The husband and father of two had worked on Beechcraft C-12 Huron transport planes at the home of U.S. Forces Japan for more than a decade. (Seth Robson\/Stars and Stripes)<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">A biker since his teenage years, Davidson was a popular member of the club and rode his \u201cGixxer\u201d sport bike everywhere, Yokota club president Evan Hall said shortly after the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">\u201cHe did everything on that bike,\u201d he said of his late friend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Club members stored the wrecked Suzuki beside Yokota\u2019s motorcycle training range, another club member, Daniel \u201cBoone\u201d Bryan, told Stars and Stripes on Tuesday at Hall\u2019s garage, a club hangout west of Yokota.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">Bryan, at the time an Air Force maintainer, met Davidson, then an Air Force crew chief, during a posting to Yokota in 1996. The pair married local women and reunited at Yokota as civilians in 2019, said Bryan, a civilian security officer at Yokota\u2019s Army and Air Force Exchange Service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">His late friend was the most skilled motorcycle rider in the Green Knights, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">\u201cWe rode together for years and then the accident happened,\u201d said the former airman, who saw the crash and attempted to resuscitate his friend at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"storyline-p f4 \">After the accident Davidson\u2019s smashed up motorcycle sat in storage until 2024 when club members began an extensive restoration project that included a new fuel tank, painted to match the bike\u2019s original orange and black colors; rebuilt steering, rear frame and suspension; and a new rear wheel, seat and handlebars.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mb2-plus4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/290626MC-RESTOREphoto03.jpg\" alt=\"A close-up view of a bald man wearing black-rimmed glasses and a black hooded sweatshirt seated next to an under-repair motorcyle inside a repair garage.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"default-font lh-default ma0 mh3 mt0 pb3\">\n\t\t\t\tGreen Knights motorcycle club member Daniel Bryan helps restore a Suzuki GSX-R1000 K3 motorcycle that belonged to a former U.S. Air Force airman and club member killed in a traffic collision.
