(EPA Images pic)<br \/>\nBEIJING: China added 20 Japanese entities to a blacklist on Monday including major companies in order to block the export of dual-use items, the commerce ministry said, escalating a months-long row between Beijing and Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"py-1.5 mb-4 text-lg\">\u201cFor the purpose of safeguarding national security and interests and fulfilling international obligations including non-proliferation, it has been decided to include 20 Japanese entities\u2026 that have participated in enhancing Japan\u2019s military capabilities on the export control list,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"py-1.5 mb-4 text-lg\">Relations between the countries were rocked in November when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggested that Tokyo may react militarily to an attack on Taiwan, the self-ruled island Beijing has vowed to seize control of by force if necessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"py-1.5 mb-4 text-lg\">Chinese authorities ramped up pressure in February by imposing export restrictions on dozens of Japanese firms it said were involved in building up Tokyo\u2019s military.<\/p>\n<p class=\"py-1.5 mb-4 text-lg\">The 20 additions to the export blacklist named Monday include various specialised subsidiaries and technology firms involved in supplying components and engineering support for Japan\u2019s defence sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"py-1.5 mb-4 text-lg\">Among them are the National Institute for Defense Studies and Mitsubishi Electric Defense and Space Technologies Corporation, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"py-1.5 mb-4 text-lg\">China is the world\u2019s largest producer and refiner of rare earths, which are crucial for various high-tech products including electric vehicles, smartphones, missile guidance systems and lasers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"py-1.5 mb-4 text-lg\">Japan has \u201cstrayed further down the wrong path, intensifying its push for a \u2018new form of militarism&#8217;\u201d, an unnamed commerce ministry spokesman said in a separate statement on the latest measures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"py-1.5 mb-4 text-lg\">\u201cChina\u2019s move is entirely justified, reasonable, and lawful,\u201d it said, adding that the decision \u201cdoes not affect normal economic and trade exchanges between China and Japan\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Among the blacklisted companies is Mitsubishi Electric\u2019s defence subsidiary.
