{"id":54478,"date":"2026-07-07T11:15:20","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T11:15:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/54478\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T11:15:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T11:15:20","slug":"adnoc-signs-15-year-agreement-with-japans-inpex-to-supply-lng-from-ruwais","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/54478\/","title":{"rendered":"Adnoc signs 15-year agreement with Japan&#8217;s Inpex to supply LNG from Ruwais"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-0-XUEMW4SRZBBINBHTSRZ7LGDO6U\">Abu Dhabi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2026\/07\/06\/adnoc-sets-up-global-lng-trading-platform-to-boost-gas-exports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2026\/07\/06\/adnoc-sets-up-global-lng-trading-platform-to-boost-gas-exports\/\">energy company Adnoc<\/a> has signed a 15-year agreement with Japan&#8217;s Inpex to supply one million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2024\/07\/10\/international-energy-companies-take-40-stake-in-adnocs-ruwais-lng-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2024\/07\/10\/international-energy-companies-take-40-stake-in-adnocs-ruwais-lng-project\/\">Ruwais LNG project<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-1-IGVFC67Q5BHZXGQ55AV22GKRWE\">The sales and purchase agreement was announced during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2025\/02\/27\/adnoc-signs-agreement-to-supply-osaka-gas-from-ruwais-lng-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2025\/02\/27\/adnoc-signs-agreement-to-supply-osaka-gas-from-ruwais-lng-project\/\">visit to Japan<\/a> by Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and managing director and group chief executive of Adnoc. The announcement comes a day after Adnoc and its international investment arm XRG launched a global LNG marketing and trading platform. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-3-MLLDRNLLOJDRPJ4WLF6WUSKAOQ\">It builds on Adnoc\u2019s &#8220;decades-long energy partnership with Japan, advances the commercialisation of Ruwais LNG and reinforces strong market confidence in the project&#8221;, said Nasser Al Muhairi, acting chief executive of Adnoc Downstream Industry, Marketing and Trading, and chairman of Ruwais LNG.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-5-5GVVCZ2I7NE4NNVAIHTNPTDDZM\">&#8220;As Adnoc and XRG target 47 mtpa of combined marketable LNG by 2035, Ruwais LNG will be a key source of reliable, flexible and lower-carbon supply for customers in Asia and around the world,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" type=\"image\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/https:\/\/cdn.jwplayer.com\/v2\/media\/rFRwpzqi\/poster.jpg\" width=\"279\" height=\"496\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Adnoc sets up global LNG trading platform to boost gas exports<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-8-PDKBADTSJBFQLPMN3TU5KSPYGM\">Japan, the world&#8217;s second-largest LNG buyer, imported \u200b67.37 million tonnes last year, according to the International Gas Union. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-9-4QB3XZBIKVG7TLMT5BY7HI3XTU\">In February last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2025\/01\/27\/adnoc-gas-signs-450-million-lng-agreement-with-japans-jera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Adnoc<\/a> signed a sales and purchase agreement with Osaka Gas for the supply of up to 800,000 tonnes per annum of LNG from its Ruwais LNG project. Under the agreement, LNG cargoes will be shipped to the destination ports of Osaka Gas and its Singapore-based subsidiary, Osaka Gas Energy Supply and Trading.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-10-DH3JQKLW3FEBXMXZJYVGEOJAAI\">Inpex, Japan\u2019s largest exploration and production company, is also boosting its LNG portfolio. The company is also Adnoc&#8217;s upstream partner, holding participating interests across a number of Abu Dhabi\u2019s offshore and onshore concessions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-11-TE2QWY5YOZGCLPFEKDI2F4KO4E\">During Dr Al Jaber&#8217;s visit, Adnoc and XRG also signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Mitsui to explore new growth opportunities across the energy value chain, the companies said in a separate statement on Tuesday. Under the agreement, they will seek to collaborate on crude oil market development and long-term supply, LNG sales and optimisation, sulphur procurement and logistics, as well as shipping solutions for LNG, ammonia, sulphur and other commodities. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-13-MDTBFP5NPNATLNCA7IIUV2LJOM\">Through XRG, Adnoc and Mitsui will evaluate international energy investment opportunities, as well as potential collaboration on lower-carbon fuels and chemicals, including methanol and other projects at Taziz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-14-IEOG3CXV4NCH7HIH7EVMXKHTZE\">Adnoc currently supplies about a third of Japan&#8217;s crude imports.<\/p>\n<p>Ruwais LNG <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-16-AUDTRXPJORH4ROKNEPLQQXNZVY\">The Ruwais LNG project, under development in Al Ruwais Industrial City, is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2028. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-18-L5LI24DKNNBARHTM3RVK33Y3LY\">To date, 90 per cent of the project&#8217;s 9.6 mtpa production capacity has been committed to international buyers across Asia and Europe through long-term arrangements, Adnoc said. Some of them include Shell and Mitsui.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-19-5BJPP4QL6NALPKVQ5PE7XXOIXQ\">The project, comprising two 4.8 mtpa liquefaction trains, will be the first LNG export facility in the Middle East and Africa to operate on clean power, the company added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-20-TOZSVA2HFRGNRA65YYHQ2UDDRI\">Adnoc Gas expects to acquire Adnoc&#8217;s 60 per cent stake in the Ruwais LNG project at cost, estimated at around $5 billion, in 2028, the companies said in November 2024. When completed, the project will more than double Adnoc Gas&#8217;s existing operated LNG production capacity to about 15 mtpa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-21-GIVNWNDJGFCXDJ3VBJRZEKSWWM\">International energy companies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2024\/05\/22\/adnoc-mozambique\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BP<\/a>, Japan\u2019s Mitsui, Shell and TotalEnergies also each have a 10 per cent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/business\/energy\/2024\/04\/01\/adnoc-gas-to-invest-13bn-until-2029-to-boost-lng-production-capacity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">equity stake<\/a> in the project. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-22-MYEWGZ7J7JBJNDFEVF5JJRSD2Y\">Adnoc is looking to position itself as a major player in the LNG market, as demand for the fuel is projected to grow over the next few decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-23-6MZJMV4MQRHF7CFNOETDQ3RS34\">Global demand for LNG is expected to increase to nearly 700 million tonnes a year by 2050, an increase of about 65 per cent from 2025 levels, according to Shell\u2019s LNG Outlook 2026, released last month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"defaultstyled__StyledText-sc-11u52t4-1 eVvrYS margin-lg-bottom\" id=\"el-24-XP4SZNSU65A6NBAB34ITYQFXRA\">About 180 million tonnes of new annual supply is forecast to enter the market by 2030, improving the availability and affordability of gas and opening up demand in new markets, the report said. &#8220;To meet the growing demand, significant additional investment will be needed in new LNG liquefaction plants through the 2030s and 2040s, with around 200 million tonnes a year of new supply needed, in addition to projects already under construction,&#8221; it added. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Abu Dhabi energy company Adnoc has signed a 15-year agreement with Japan&#8217;s Inpex to supply one million tonnes&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":54479,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[36148,36149,34,5613,8,1043,3450],"class_list":["post-54478","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-japan","tag-adnoc","tag-business-team","tag-energy","tag-gas","tag-japan","tag-standard","tag-story"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/54478","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=54478"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/54478\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/54479"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=54478"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=54478"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=54478"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
