{"id":55422,"date":"2026-07-09T00:26:40","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T00:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/55422\/"},"modified":"2026-07-09T00:26:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T00:26:40","slug":"mitsubishi-transfers-10th-mogami-warship-to-japanese-navy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/55422\/","title":{"rendered":"Mitsubishi Transfers 10th Mogami Warship to Japanese Navy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/dronefront.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/WhatsAppVideo2026-05-15at09.23.58.gif\" alt=\"The Drone Front\" width=\"1280\" height=\"539\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhi.com\/jp\/news\/26062902.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">taken delivery<\/a> of its 10th Mogami-class multi-mission stealth frigate, the JS Nagara (FFM-10), from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The handover is part of a 2017 contract to <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/12\/26\/japan-final-mogami-frigate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">construct up to 12 vessels<\/a> to replace the military\u2019s Abukuma-class general-purpose destroyer escorts commissioned in the late 1980s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MHI transferred the latest surface combatant to the navy from its facility in Nagasaki, where seven other Mogami platforms were also built.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following its induction, the Nagara will be operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force\u2019s 2nd Patrol and Defense Squadron, and will be stationed at Kure Base in Hiroshima Prefecture, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asahi.com\/articles\/ASV6Z2V16V6ZTOLB00CM.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">according<\/a> to Asahi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event was attended by 120 visitors, with Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense Shinji Yoshida leading the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe security environment surrounding our country is the most severe and complex since the end of the war,\u201d Yoshida remarked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs a country surrounded by the sea on all sides, we have extremely high expectations for this state-of-the-art destroyer in the defense of our nation. We pray that this ship will become a powerful support for our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s Mogami Frigate<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mogami-class frigate\u2019s development began in 2015 and centered on a \u201ccompact-type hull\u201d warship design with \u201cadditional multifunctional capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vessel spans 133 meters (436 feet) in length and has a beam of 16 meters (52 feet).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can carry about 90 personnel and has dedicated spaces for a naval helicopter, autonomous systems, and support boats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The platform uses a vertical launch system and deck-mounted canisters to fire surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, as well as anti-submarine rockets and torpedoes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also armed with mine-laying equipment, remotely operated weapon stations, electronic warfare devices, and 127mm shipborne guns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mogami is fitted with a combined Rolls-Royce gas turbine and twin large-bore diesel engines with 70,000 horsepower for a maximum speed of 30 knots (56 kilometers\/35 miles per hour).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/\u6d77\u4e0a\u81ea\u885b\u968a_\u8b77\u885b\u8266\u3082\u304c\u307f_FFM-1.3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Mogami-class frigate\" class=\"wp-image-79778\"  \/>Mogami-class frigate.
