In more modern times, the two countries are not dogged by World War II baggage: Japan never occupied India in its expansionist conquest of Asia. Following the conclusion of the war, at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, Indian jurist Radhabinod Pal voted alone to acquit all 25 defendants, which some conservative Japanese consider to be a cornerstone of the India-Japan relationship.

Read the full op-ed here.

Nikkei Asia The following excerpt comes from an op-ed was published in Nikkei Asia on July 26, 2026…

[2
938,72,38165,18467,217,17002,251,8,500,33,36990,2258
post-58213","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-japan","tag-arts","tag-asia","tag-asia-society","tag-blog","tag-business","tag-countries","tag-education","tag-japan","tag-lifestyle","tag-nihon","tag-non-profit","tag-policy
["GET
