Shares of Tower Semiconductor (TSEM) surged in early premarket trading on Tuesday after the company announced a $3 billion investment in Japan to expand its optical and electrical chip manufacturing facilities, as part of efforts to increase the supply of critical components to meet demand for AI infrastructure.<\/p>\n
At the time of writing, TSEM stock was up 17% and on track for its biggest percentage gain in two months.<\/p>\n

As part of the investment, the company will increase production of 300-millimeter silicon photonics, silicon germanium, and advanced semiconductor packaging capabilities in Japan. Moreover, the Japanese government has pledged an additional $1 billion in grants to support the manufacturing expansion initiative.<\/p>\n
