{"id":58923,"date":"2026-07-16T03:05:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T03:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/58923\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T03:05:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T03:05:07","slug":"facial-recognition-gates-introduced-at-ikebukuro-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/58923\/","title":{"rendered":"Facial recognition gates introduced at Ikebukuro Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hitachi and Tobu Railway on Wednesday introduced a facial recognition system at ticket gates at Ikebukuro Station in Tokyo\u2019s Toshima Ward.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers can pass through the ticket gates hands-free if they register their facial data and commuter pass information in advance.<\/p>\n<p>The companies hope to encourage other railway operators to adopt the system, which can be installed by simply adding cameras and other equipment to existing ticket gates.<\/p>\n<p>The system was jointly developed in cooperation with three ticket gate manufacturers, including Toshiba.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time that the system has been installed at a major terminal station in Tokyo.
