But whether that goodwill endures depends on how long the currency\u2019s rebound can survive mounting market and policy pressures.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Friday\u2019s operation, Washington\u2019s first yen purchase since 1998, came after the Japanese currency had slumped to a four-decade low of almost 164 yen to the US dollar.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The intervention briefly lifted the yen to a three-month high of 155.2 on Friday before it weakened.
