The companies plan a joint center focused on OpenFrame-based migration services as Japanese enterprises seek to move legacy mainframe workloads to open systems and cloud environments. Photo by panumas nikhomkhai<\/a> on Pexels<\/a> TmaxSoft Japan and Kyndryl Japan have signed a basic agreement to establish the OpenFrame Modernization Center of Excellence to accelerate mainframe modernization for Japanese companies, according to a statement released on August 7.<\/p>\n The specialized organization will focus on TmaxSoft Japan’s OpenFrame mainframe modernization solution and support customers shifting away from mainframes and moving to the cloud. The partnership will cover sales and marketing, project delivery, and maintenance and support.<\/p>\n OpenFrame CoE is intended to move away from a traditional systems integration model built around one-off project responses and instead create a service model based on standardization, reuse and division of labor. The companies said the aim is to provide modernization services more quickly while maintaining quality.<\/p>\n Under the agreement, TmaxSoft Japan and Kyndryl Japan will jointly pursue mainframe modernization projects, promote sales and marketing activities, build project delivery structures, and provide maintenance and support services.<\/p>\n Kyndryl Japan supports enterprise modernization through three approaches: “Modernize on,” “Integrate with,” and “Move off.” The companies said the “Move off” approach is designed to help customers migrate from mainframes to open systems to optimize IT costs, improve operational flexibility and build a foundation for future digital transformation.<\/p>\n OpenFrame is a rehosting solution that enables customers to migrate to open environments while continuing to use existing application assets. The release also said OpenFrame uses a rehosting approach to enable migration in a short period and at lower cost. According to the release, OpenFrame can migrate existing assets such as COBOL, PL\/I, Assembler and JCL without redevelopment, helping reduce migration risk and workload.<\/p>\n The new center will combine Kyndryl Japan’s experience in large-scale system migration with TmaxSoft Japan’s modernization technology, supporting projects from migration planning and execution through operational adoption.<\/p>\n Kyndryl Japan is the Japanese unit of Kyndryl, the New York-listed IT infrastructure services company spun off from IBM in 2021. Kyndryl says it provides advisory, implementation and managed services to thousands of companies in more than 60 countries.<\/p>\n TmaxSoft Japan was established in 2000 as the Japanese subsidiary of South Korea’s TmaxSoft. In Japan, the company has signed contracts with customers including a major non-life insurer, a life insurer, a large automaker and companies in credit card and payments finance.<\/p>\n Mainframe systems remain widely used in Japan in industries such as finance, insurance and manufacturing, where companies continue to run large volumes of legacy applications on core systems.
