Many Koreans believe that Korea and Japan have similar economic power, but they feel that Korea is ahead of Japan in terms of personal living standards. There were also high responses that the Korean economy would outpace Japan in 10 years, and Korea also showed an advantage in nine areas in comparison with 13 major industries.<\/p>\n

On the 13th, Elimnet online survey platform Now & Survey announced the results of a survey of 1,007 people aged 20 or older nationwide to mark the 81st anniversary of liberation. The survey was conducted for four days from the 7th to the 10th, and the sampling error is \u00b13.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.<\/p>\n

In terms of living standards, 37.2% said “Korea is high.” This is a level that leads Japan’s high (23.3%) by 13.9 percentage points. In addition, in the comparison of national economic power, 33.5% of “Korea is high” and 30.0% of “Japan is high” were ahead of 3.5 percentage points, but 36.5% of the respondents said “similar.”<\/p>\n

51.9% of the respondents said that “the Korean economy will outpace Japan in 10 years,” 3.7 times that of “Japan will outpace Japan” (14.0%).<\/p>\n

In the industrial competitiveness survey, semiconductors received the highest score of 4.25 on a 5-point scale (1 point Japanese advantage, 5 point Korean advantage). Cultural contents (4.07 points) and shipbuilding and maritime (4.01 points) were also classified as Korea’s superiority, exceeding 4 points. In addition, artificial intelligence (3.73 points), secondary batteries (3.72 points), electronics and home appliances (3.71 points), defense industry (3.59 points), bio and healthcare (3.26 points), and automobile and mobility (3.24 points) were also evaluated as superior in Korea, and Korea is ahead in nine out of 13 industries.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, basic science and source technology were evaluated as the only Japanese superiority among the 13 industries with 2.69. In addition, it was found that the gap between Korea and Japan is not large in original technology-based industries such as advanced materials, parts, and equipment (3.17 points), precision machinery and robots (3.17 points), and aerospace (3.09 points). Contrary to the high evaluation of Korea’s competitiveness in the field of finished products and contents, there were relatively many responses acknowledging Japan’s superiority in basic science and original technology.<\/p>\n

Economic growth ranked first with 49.4% in the question of Korea’s greatest achievements since liberation. The globalization of K-content then ranked second with 31.0%. This was higher than industrialization and export growth (29.7%) and democratic development (27.0%).<\/p>\n
