Japan protests Putin\u2019s visit to Iturup<\/p>\n
Earlier, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi lodged a protest with Russia over Vladimir Putin\u2019s first visit to Iturup.<\/p>\n
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also condemned Putin\u2019s trip to the Japanese island. He called the visit a provocation and expressed Ukraine\u2019s solidarity with Japan.<\/p>\n

Japan includes Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan, and Habomai among its Northern Territories. In 2022, the Japanese government once again described these islands as \u201cillegally occupied\u201d in its annual diplomatic reference book, the Diplomatic Bluebook.<\/p>\n
