This would be a minus to sustainable economic growth. That&#8217;s my greatest concern,&#8221; Hanzawa said.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">While the \u2060end of deflation has been a boon for Japanese banks as loan demand for investment has surged, employees&#8217; real wages have been negative for the four years to the end of \u200b2025, labour \u200bministry data showed.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Japan has spent much of the \u200bpast three decades battling deflation after \u200cthe collapse of its asset bubble in the early 1990s ushered in years of weak growth, stagnant wages and entrenched expectations that prices would remain flat or fall.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">The Bank of Japan raised interest rates to a 31-year high of 1% in June but that did not arrest the yen&#8217;s decline. The currency hit a 40-year low of 162.66 \u200cyen against the dollar last week.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Hanzawa declined to \u200bcomment on the yen&#8217;s current level.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"text text-block paragraph text-left neo-font-paragraph-xl-reg  yf-18d6y07\" style=\"text-decoration: none; font-style: normal; text-transform: none; text-align: inherit; font-variant-numeric: normal;\">Japan is reliant on \u200bimports for the majority of its \u200bfood and energy.
