The ministry will also request funding for measures such as the introduction of AI-based decision support systems, without specifying the projected costs.<\/p>\n<p>Some costs are yet to be projected because discussions to revise Japan&#8217;s three key national security documents are expected to continue to the year end.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry&#8217;s request will focus on defense capabilities to respond to new methods of warfare that utilize AI and drones. It will also prioritize efforts to reinforce the foundation of the nation&#8217;s defense and secure the capability to fight for prolonged periods.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry plans to set up an AI-based decision support system at the Joint Operations Command, which oversees the Ground, Maritime and Air Self-Defense Forces.<\/p>\n<p>It also plans to introduce enhanced cloud systems and develop underwater-launched hypersonic missiles.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry is also eyeing the establishment of a system for the government to acquire equipment manufacturing facilities and entrust production and management to private companies.
