Sony is putting up prices across its compact Cinema Line in Japan, and the increases are anything but symbolic. The FX3 climbs by roughly 19 percent, the FX6 by about 12 percent, and even the robotic FR7 gets significantly more expensive. With the revision taking effect on September 1, Japanese buyers have a very short window to lock in current pricing. Here is what is changing, and why this fits a pattern we have been tracking all year.<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0an official notice from Sony Marketing Corporation<\/a>, the company is revising manufacturer ex-works prices and recommended retail prices for certain products sold in Japan, effective September 1, 2026. Sony attributes the move to the recent surge in raw material, manufacturing, and logistics costs caused by external factors. The revision covers 18 products in total: seven Cinema Line cameras with published new prices, plus eleven CFexpress Type A and SDXC memory cards, which carry open pricing in Japan, so no revised figures were published for them, according to dealer communications.<\/p>\n The FX3 (ILME-FX3A) takes the steepest percentage hit, moving from \u00a5581,900 (around $3,640) to \u00a5693,000 (around $4,330), an increase of \u00a5111,100 or roughly 19 percent (all dollar conversions at roughly \u00a5160 to the US dollar; Japanese prices include tax). The FX6 body (ILME-FX6V) goes from \u00a5935,000 (around $5,840) to \u00a51,045,000 (around $6,530), while the FX6 kit with the FE 24-105mm F4 G lens (ILME-FX6VK) rises from \u00a51,089,000 (around $6,810) to \u00a51,215,500 (around $7,600), both increases of roughly 12 percent.<\/p>\n The APS-C FX30 gets off comparatively lightly with a flat \u00a522,000 (around $140) increase on both configurations: the body (ILME-FX30B) moves from \u00a5297,000 to \u00a5319,000 (around $1,990), and the XLR handle version (ILME-FX30) from \u00a5352,000 to \u00a5374,000 (around $2,340). At the top of the list sits the FR7 PTZ cinema camera, which climbs from \u00a51,430,000 to \u00a51,622,500 (around $10,140), while the FR7K kit with the 28-135mm zoom jumps \u00a5245,300 to \u00a51,972,300 (around $12,330), the largest single increase in absolute terms. Dealer notices circulating in Japan put the average increase across the affected products at 14.5 percent.<\/p>\n A short deadline for Japanese buyers<\/p>\n Orders placed before the changeover will be processed at current pricing, and Japanese dealer notices specify a hard cutoff: orders must be placed and paid by August 31 at 14:00 JST. As with any pre-increase deadline, stock at the old price can run out well before the cutoff itself, so buyers in Japan who have already decided on an FX3A or FX6 have little reason to wait. It is worth noting that these are manufacturer list prices; street prices in Japan have typically sat well below them, and how far retail pricing moves after September 1 remains to be seen.<\/p>\n Normally, a camera platform introduced in 2021 would be drifting down in price, not up. The FX3A is\u00a0a modest refresh of the original FX3<\/a>\u00a0with a higher-resolution LCD panel and little else changed, yet it now costs more in Japan than the FX3 did at any point in its life. The reason is the same one driving price movements across the entire industry: component costs, and memory in particular. The fact that eleven of the eighteen affected Sony products are memory cards tells its own story.<\/p>\n What buyers outside Japan should watch<\/p>\n For now, this revision applies only to products sold in Japan; Sony has made no announcement for other regions. That said, US pricing on this platform has already moved this year: the FX3A currently carries a list price of $4,298 at\u00a0B&H<\/a>, up from the roughly $3,900 level it held earlier, though at the time of writing it is discounted to $3,998 with an instant saving. Anyone in Europe or North America weighing an FX-series purchase should keep an eye on local pricing over the coming weeks; manufacturer cost pressure rarely stays confined to one market for long.
