The ‘Who Asked For This’ remake trend continues with Deadline today announcing that a new take on Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s J-horror masterpiece Pulse is in the works at Spyglass and Sony’s Screen Gems.<\/p>\n

Dave Boyle (Never After Dark<\/a>) is tapped to direct, with Parker Finn (Smile, the upcoming <\/a>Possession<\/a> remake<\/a> \u2013 go figure) and Jonathan Fass producing for Bad Feeling.<\/p>\n

Kurosawa’s 2001 techno-horror stars Ryosuke Kawashima, Kumiko As\u014d and Harue Karasawa, and centers on two groups of young people investigating strange phenomena and mysterious deaths that appear to be tied to a mysterious website. Per Deadline<\/a>, who reported the news earlier today, plot details, including locale, for the new take are being kept under wraps: “All that’s known is that it’s set in the modern era, revolving around a new set of characters.”<\/p>\n

Generally considered one of the greatest and scariest Japanese horror films of all time (with its most terrifying scene still frequently referenced in modern horror movies<\/a>), Pulse already received a critically panned remake in 2006 from director Jim Sonzero, so why exactly we’re doing this again remains a mystery.<\/p>\n

Boyle’s Never After Dark won the Midnighter Audience Award in its premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, and is set for release on September 25.
