{"id":85701,"date":"2026-09-04T01:39:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T01:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/85701\/"},"modified":"2026-09-04T01:39:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T01:39:07","slug":"tokyo-disneysea-continues-to-evolve-after-25-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/85701\/","title":{"rendered":"Tokyo DisneySea continues to evolve after 25 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>URAYASU, CHIBA PREF. \u2013 Tokyo DisneySea, one of the most popular theme parks in Japan, on Friday celebrated the 25th anniversary of its opening.<\/p>\n<p>The only ocean-themed Disney park in the world has continued to attract and excite visitors from both in and outside Japan since its opening on Sept. 4, 2001.<\/p>\n<p>The park\u00a0\u2014\u00a0located adjacent to Tokyo\u00a0in the city of Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture\u00a0\u2014\u00a0has also continued to evolve over a quarter of a century, with its operator, Oriental Land, revamping existing attractions and making massive investments to build new areas.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/news\/2026\/04\/08\/japan\/disneysea-anniversary\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cSparkling Jubilee\u201d celebration<\/a> to mark the milestone kicked off in April this year. Special shows and merchandise aligning with the event\u2019s color theme of \u201cjubilee blue,\u201d described on the theme park\u2019s website as being \u201cinspired by the beauty of the seas,\u201d will be available to visitors during\u00a0the event, which runs\u00a0through March 2027.<\/p>\n<p>An official commemorative book featuring past events held at Tokyo DisneySea will be available on Friday from major Japanese publisher Kodansha.<\/p>\n<p>While neighboring Tokyo Disneyland, which opened in April 1983, mainly targets families with younger children, Tokyo DisneySea primarily targets young customers with many thrilling attractions, such as the Tower of Terror, a drop-tower dark ride.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Tokyo DisneySea\u00a0attracts families by offering park features for older people and meet-and-greets with characters for children.<\/p>\n<p>At a cost of over \u00a5300 billion, the new \u201cFantasy Springs\u201d area was opened at Tokyo DisneySea in 2024. An attraction themed on the Indiana Jones franchise will reopen in November this year after going through a revamp, including the introduction of projection mapping.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTokyo DisneySea has taken on new challenges in its quarter-century history,\u201d Oriental Land President Wataru Takahashi said at an earnings briefing in April.<\/p>\n<p>The park faces issues such as tackling higher costs for personnel\u00a0and securing human resources.
