{"id":86423,"date":"2026-09-05T05:18:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T05:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/86423\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T05:18:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T05:18:10","slug":"japan-us-to-advance-cooperation-on-us550-billion-trade-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/86423\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan, US to advance cooperation on US$550 billion trade deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Japan and the United States have confirmed they will advance cooperation on investing in strategic sectors and honour the other terms of a trade deal they reached last year, even though President Donald Trump\u2019s tariff policies have changed significantly over time.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWe reaffirmed that last year\u2019s agreement remains unchanged,\u201d Japan\u2019s Trade and Industry Minister Ryosei Akazawa told reporters in Washington on Friday, after meeting Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer separately.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Akazawa said the US would not impose any higher tariff rates on goods from Japan than those agreed to bilaterally in July last year.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">He also said he agreed with the US officials that the two countries would reinforce supply chains for critical minerals.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">During his meeting with Greer on Friday, Akazawa said they shared the view that China\u2019s \u201carbitrary export controls\u201d posed a risk of causing \u201csignificant damage to the supply chains of both Japan and the United States\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"SoftBank Group Corp.
