Tanaka is joined by creative director and partner Akira Kuboshita, who formally joined the brand in 2020.

The label was selected following an evaluation of participating brands based on their potential to become internationally recognised brands representing Tokyo, their ability to increase brand awareness through design, product range and pricing, and their willingness and organisational capacity to showcase internationally.

Sayori brings a background spanning high fashion, knitwear and global mass-market design. After graduating from the Apparel Fashion Design Department at Tokyo Mode Gakuen, she began her career at Yohji Yamamoto, working across the creative team as well as knitwear and cut-and-sew design. She subsequently joined Fast Retailing, where she served as a leader of the women’s global design team before moving to the United States in 2013 and establishing Tanaka in New York four years later.

Kuboshita similarly has experience at Fast Retailing and Uniqlo, where he led the men’s global design team, working primarily across UT, activewear and knitwear while contributing to creative and planning projects in Japan and internationally.

The Fashion Prize of Tokyo recognition will support Tanaka’s next stage of international expansion. As part of the program, the brand is scheduled to hold showcase events in Paris in January and June 2027, alongside an event during Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo in March 2027.

                                Copyright © 2026 FashionNetwork.com All rights reserved.

Published September 8, 2026 New York-based unisex label Tanaka has been named the ninth recipient of the Fashion…

[3
9066,1908,1703,8,4007,925,51993,6911,52,1704,40037
post-88069","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-tokyo","tag-beauty","tag-fashion","tag-fast-retailing","tag-japan","tag-luxury","tag-network","tag-professionals","tag-rakuten","tag-tokyo","tag-uniqlo","tag-yohji-yamamoto
["GET
