{"id":88515,"date":"2026-09-08T19:39:22","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T19:39:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/88515\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T19:39:22","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T19:39:22","slug":"japans-hayashi-goes-off-with-suspected-broken-arm-at-womens-fiba-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/japan\/88515\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan&#8217;s Hayashi goes off with suspected broken arm at women\u2019s FIBA World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BERLIN (AP) \u2014 Japan shooting guard Saki Hayashi went off with what looked a broken arm during the team\u2019s <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/womens-basketball-world-cup-fiba-germany-56c5384e40805bb1954206cefd32cd7a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">loss to Hungary<\/a> at the women\u2019s FIBA World Cup on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Hayashi scored despite a foul in the air from Agnes Torok but needed immediate medical attention with just over a minute left in the second quarter. She landed awkwardly on her right arm.<\/p>\n<p>She was unable to continue and a somber silence fell upon the arena as she lay still on the court. A blue tarp was provided to give her privacy and fans responded with applause when she was led off.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary won 84-63 and will face the United States in the quarterfinals on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Japan coach Corey Gaines was unable to provide an update on Hayashi\u2019s injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know anything about her yet,\u201d he said. \u201cI saw what happened, but I don\u2019t know what went on. She was gone by the time we got back from the court at halftime&#8230; so I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course it\u2019s emotional when you see when the players go down like that,\u201d Gaines added. \u201cI was just trying to get their minds off of that, back onto the game.
