Lee Seong-kwon criticized, “Some KOSPI large stocks are concentrated”
“The KOSDAQ is becoming a ‘cold meal’.”
ėŽė§ íë Rep. Lee Sung-kwon, secretary of the “Alternative and Future” group of the People’s Power, is entering to attend the “Alternative and Future” breakfast meeting held at the National Assembly Hall on the 22nd. Yonhap News Agency.
Lee Sung-kwon, a lawmaker of the People’s Power, argued on the 28th that President Lee Jae Myung should be held responsible for the launch of a single-stock leveraged exchange-traded fund (ETF), citing the decline in the KOSDAQ index.
Rep. Lee targeted President Lee on Facebook that day, saying, “Did you see the current KOSDAQ index. It fell to 705, down from 750 on President Lee’s inauguration day, he said. “The single-stock leverage ETF released ahead of the June 3 local elections made the KOSPI market a ‘gambling’ and the KOSDAQ market an ‘iceboard’.”
“It was common for KOSDAQ to rise when the KOSPI rose, but KOSDAQ became ‘cold rice’ as funds poured into several large KOSPI stocks due to leveraged ETFs,” he said. “The pattern that only ‘Samjeonics’ rises when the KOSPI rises and KOSDAQ falls first has strengthened since the launch of the ETF.”
“It is not a wrong analysis in that the timing of the decline in the KOSDAQ index coincides with the launch of ETFs,” he said. “Many individual investors who invest in large KOSPI stocks have fallen into huge losses and irreparable conditions due to the KOSDAQ downturn.”
“It is more painful that the startup ecosystem is collapsing. If the KOSDAQ plunges, venture investment will decrease and start-ups will shrink, he said. “It is clear that it is a crisis, and the solution should start with an apology and responsibility for government policy decisions.”
In addition, citing President Lee’s remarks at the Cabinet meeting in March, he urged President Lee to show his ability to overcome the crisis first, saying, “It is incompetent to not properly overcome the crisis when it comes to a crisis.”
