POSCO DX (CEO Shim Min-seok, photo) has declared that it will switch to an “AI Native Company” that applies artificial intelligence (AI) to industrial sites and office work. It plans to expand its business centering on physical AI, which controls steel mill facilities and industrial robots, and agent AI, which performs office work.
POSCO DX held a press conference at Lotte Hotel in Seoul on the 29th and announced its AI business strategy that uses physical AI and agent AI as its two major business pillars.
First, physical AI implements an intelligent factory that has developed an existing smart factory. Beyond information and communication technology (ICT)-centered automation, it aims to self-manufacture where people, AI, and robots make decisions and work together. AI controls large cranes, raw material transfer facilities, and ship raw material unloading machines, and uses the operator’s experience and know-how as data to upgrade the operation of the facility.
Agentic AI is a strategy to automate office and management tasks through ‘AI employees’. POSCO DX is currently developing and operating more than 200 AI agents for group companies. In the second half of this year, 113 types of AI employees, including accounting, tax, personnel, labor, and management analysis, will be applied to internal tasks.
