Samsung is launching a program to build job skills and support employment for 1,000 unemployed young people in non-metropolitan regions.
Samsung said on the 30th that it held the opening ceremony for the “Youth Hope Learning Center” at Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance’s Yuseong training center in Daejeon. The Youth Hope Learning Center is part of the “K-New Deal Academy,” the government’s program to strengthen job skills and support employment for young people. Drawing on its operational experience with “Hope Stepping Stone 2.0,” which has supported employment for youth preparing for independence, and its affiliates’ education infrastructure, Samsung provides practice-oriented job training to young people outside the Seoul metropolitan area.
The training program consists of six fields: electronics and information technology (IT) manufacturing technician, HVAC-refrigeration technician, ship manufacturing technician, heavy equipment operation technician, online advertising and public relations specialist, and confectionery and baking technician. A distinctive feature is that the program does not stop at basic job training but supports everything from foundational skills education to field-specific specialized training, certification acquisition, and career development as a single package. Affiliate training facilities, cafeterias, and shuttle buses are also provided so that trainees can focus on their training. This year, a total of 1,000 unemployed young people in non-metropolitan regions will be selected in two rounds. This training involves 550 participants, while the second-half course will be conducted from November after recruitment in August.
Yeo Myung-gu, Executive Vice President and head of Samsung Electronics’ (005930) DS Social Contribution Group, stressed, “The skills learned at the Youth Hope Learning Center will become a solid competitive advantage for trainees,” adding, “We will continue to work to cultivate skilled talent needed in industrial fields and expand growth opportunities for young people.”
